THE SPARTANS

Michael Oosterhout grew up singing the songs from the musical Rent on car trips with his family. He started playing piano at the age of five and added in trumpet at age ten. Latin and English literature are among his academic passions. He and Caroline are already at work on another musical.

THE SPARTANS

Caroline Smith is currently majoring in Film and Media Studies (although that may change, it already has several times). She has a vast knowledge of contemporary American musical theater, from the work of Stephen Sondheim to Alan Menken and Laurence O'Keefe. She cites Sondheim, Howard Ashman, Robert Lopez, and StarKid Productions as her influences.

THE SPARTANS

Anika Hanson sings and plays both flute and guitar but her real obsession is space. She won the "Right Stuff" medal at the U.S. Space Camp when she was 15 years old. As she works towards a career as an astronaut, she's immersing herself in physics and engineering courses in college. She also loves rock climbing.

THE SPARTANS

Iman Bakayoko likes to sing and dance just fine, but her ultimate goal is to be Secretary of State. She is pursuing a degree in International Relations. She and Michael have been friends since 7th grade. They are the original mother and father figures of the Goode Family, but consider each other siblings.

THE SPARTANS

Marina Wei is interested in psychology. She was not in any singing groups or plays in high school and was originally just supposed to be asleep on a couch in every scene of Sparta! The Musical. Her own senior project was to read as many classic English Literature novels as she could in three weeks.

THE SPARTANS

Rebecca York is a huge musical theater fan but hadn't tried acting until Sparta! The Musical. Her senior quest was to draw a comic strip called In the Earth about dragons, six-foot-tall beetles, and a humanoid named Rya. She hopes to combine her skills in art and advocacy to help minority youth find their own voice.
